Aim of Chumadimu is to establish the processing of rare earth elements for magnets at a global scale in Rwanda - by means of an ESG-compliant, integrated, pan-African, end-to-end value chain. This shall be done in pursual of policies and strategies outlined in

• a "Memorandum of Understanding on Sustainable Raw Materials Value Chains” between the EU and Rwanda dated February 19, 2024;

• the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) entered into force on May 23, 2024 as Regulation (EU) 2024/1252 of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a framework for ensuring a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials, with benchmarks set for 2030;

• the African Unions Agenda 2063 with its flagship Commodity Strategy with the aim of Transforming Africa from a raw materials supplier by enabling countries to add value, extract higher rents from commodities, integrate into global value chains promote diversification anchored in value addition and local content development; and

• the Republic of Rwanda Vision 2050 - establishing the country’s development framework for Economic Growth and Prosperity in pursuance of the United Nations´s Social Development Goals (SDGs).
